First -
How can the younger generation reconnect with the elderly to have a better relationship between each other?
The younger generation are drifting away from the elderly. Especially the teenagers caught up in their own teen world and not spending time with their grandparents.
We have to find a way to reestablish the relationship between grandkids and grandparents. Even if they are not related, we should try to strengthen the relationship between young and old.
Second -
How can we improve the mode of transportation for the elderly like getting around?
With some disabilities of the elderly like finding it hard to like walk around and stuff, we have to find a real better way to help the overall aging population so that they will be more active and go out other than just staying at home and maybe just hooked up on the television.
We have to find a way to improve the current mode of transport to let the elderly move around with ease and stuff. Like what exactly can we modify with the current transportation or what something new can we create to help them.
Third -
How can we bring simple technology into the lives of the elderly so that they will learn new skills and maybe connect with their family through the internet?
With the elderly always staying at home and sometimes hooked on the television, they have to let them see the other side of technology so that they will also be exposed to the internet and stuff like Facebook and Skype.
With these basic skills on the fingertips of the elderly, it will be really easier for them to communicate with friends and their loved ones in the country or maybe out of the country so that they can stay connected and stay up to date with the news and happenings in the world.

Holiday work - Part 2: Deepening your learning experiences
Observation 1 :
Usually if you look around when it is dismissal time from school, sometimes some grandparents may pick their grandkids from school and usually like help them carry their bag and stuff.
The bag's weight are depending on whether its primary school students or younger. But sometimes, while going home the children will play with friends around an area for a while which leaves the grandparents standing there holding their heavy bag waiting.
The students should be able to carry their own bags and not let the elderly carry it especially if its filled to the brim with books.
Observation 2 :
Most of the elderly would usually like stay in the living room to read the newspapers and they will never forget their read glasses before they start reading it.
This shows that the vision of the elderly worsens and especially when sometimes they cant find their reading glasses, they would try to make out the blurred words by squinting their eyes or like bringing the newspaper nearer to their eyes.
Observation 3 :
Something because of old age, the elderly tend to forget alot of things as they grow older and sometimes when their kids or grandkids tell them to do something and when they forget, they will always get scolded like saying they are really forgetful and stuff.

Holiday work - Part 1: Understanding the ‘The Elderly Challenge’
Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.
1. Housing
To develop Singapore to have houses that are elderly friendly. This would solve the problems for the elderly being dependent on the family and community for housing problems and enable them to live with ease. The home is to be specially designed to meet the needs of the elderly.
2. Accessibility
The accessibility for the elderly once they leave the house as the elderly-friendly house is covered in the first point. This is to enable the elderly who usually have some problems with going out and stuff because they can't go here for what reason. Its like hard for them - Mode of transport for them. With better accessibility, the elderly would find it easier to move around Singapore without any problems with transport.
3. Caring for Seniors
To have more places that the elderly can go to when they're experiencing some troubles with their health and stuff. A place that can help the elderly and so that the quality of their life are maintained like the first and second point mentioned.
4. Opportunities
For the elderly to have a happy lifestyle and so that they can connect with their families and friends with ease. Like community groups and other activities to bond them together to mantain that happiness.
State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly
The length of land leases to be shorter so it will facilitate the development of retirement housing by the private sector.
State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable
Government could pay half of the elderly’s medical bills like subsidize some of the medical bills for families who have a low monthly income.
The other way is to be trained with the skills to help the elderly by asking those well-trained people to give basic training to the neighbours or like family and friends.
After reading the CAI report, what do you are the THREE things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges
1. Organise some activity with the elderly to strengthen the bond between maybe the family and the elderly.
2. Maybe to go there once in a while and go and have a friendly chat with them for a while so that they wont be lonely and we can build up the relationship with them.
3. Apart from going there to have chat with the elderly, we can also go there to help out like by taking care of the elderly for a while and such.
